Черни връх (Cherni vryh)

With Vasko, my most common partner in hiking and mountain experience, decided to climb up Cherni vryh (2290m). Cherni vryh is the highest peak in Vitosha mountain (some info at http://www.visitbulgaria.net/places/vitosha/index.shtml).

This is nothing special, just a keep-in-shape walk and a simple training for the new mountaneeiring equipment I have. I bought new gaiters and crampons last week. I had to test them. Our hardest target for the near future is Botev vryh in Stara Planina mountain. It does not just require good equipment, but also good skills for working with it.

We left at 7:20 in the morning, had a breakfast and got to the Aleko chalets by car at around 8:00. The weather was close to perfect, no clouds, no wind, just sun. Walking up was easy, we were walking on the ski tracks so the snow was hard and not too deep. Crampons were not really needed but I had to make some experience with them. Still it was cool wearing them :), making ice into peaces like cheese. At around 11:00 we reached the peak. Speed was not our goal, it was stupid to be in a hurry in this amasing weather. The temperature at the peak was -11C. We took a short break at the top and header back at around 11:15. Going down was cool too. There were very steep areas were we were just jumping and slipping down. Going down was fast, we were at Aleko chalets at around 12:30. My new gaiters performed just perfect, the crampons were also good, although the test was not good enough for them.

Mountains are wonderfull in the winter (in the summer too :)).
